Fire Safety Public Education Opportunities and Information

Overview

The St. Louis fire Department offers education on a number of topics related to the department's duties. There are classes or presentations available relating to fire safety and emergency medical services.

Community Outreach Programs

Smoke Alarm Installation Program 

The Fire Department installs, free of charge, long life smoke alarms with lithium power cells, which are designed to last a maximum of 10 years without battery changes. In addition, the St. Louis Fire Department offers free home fire safety surveys and assistance with designing home fire escape plans. 

To request a smoke detector for a residential home or apartment, St. Louis City residents can call the STLFD Smoke Detector Hotline at 533-3406.

Fire Safety House Program (Safe House)

The Safe House is a mobile fire safety house that is set up at different large community events throughout the city. The purpose of the program is to instruct our citizens on fire safety topics, such as: smoke alarms, home escape plans, using 911, and a host of other fire safety topics. 

Fire Safety Presentations 

This program will send your neighborhood fire company out to talk with your group about fire safety topics. Pamphlets are usually available for groups of less than 100.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Fire Extinguisher training for business and industry is handled by Fire Marshal's Staff.  Contact number - 289-1960.

CaRe©, Call Reassurance Program 

This is a telephone reassurance program for elderly or disabled individuals that are living independently in the City of St. Louis. The automated system calls your home seven days a week, to make sure you are okay. If we do not get an answer after three attempts, an emergency vehicle will be dispatched to your home to check on your well-being. This program is offered free of charge. For ALL requests for a public education presentation, career day:

  1. Email STLFD_PEO@StLouis-mo.gov
  2. Provide the following information:
  • What resource you are requesting
  • Name of organization or event
  • Contact person
  • Phone number/E-mail address
  • Date of event
  • Time of event
  • Location of event
  • Approximate number and age of attendees
