Christ Church Cathedral (13th and Locust, next door to Central Library) is inviting the community to attend "Silent Night" ... an interfaith time of remembrance of those who have died because of gun violence in Newtown, CT and St. Louis and prayer for an end to this
violence in our communities. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.
Bishop George Wayne Smith, The Rev. Traci Blackmon, Rabbi Susan Talve and others will be helping lead this service. The organizers are hoping many other clergy and public officials will be present as well. It will be a time of short readings, songs and prayers. There will be no speeches. At the end of the service, participants will light candles and walk across the street to the front steps of Central Library where names of those killed by guns in Newtown and St. Louis will be read.
Following the service, there will be a chance for anyone who wishes to go back into the Cathedral and write letters to our public officials urging reform of gun laws and increased availability of mental health services in Missouri and nationally.
