Pat Brannon, owner of the historic St. Louis Casa Loma Ballroom, announced details last month for Casa Loma's year-long 85th anniversary celebration, starting on Friday, Sept. 7, the day the ballroom first opened in 1927.
The evening will begin in classic Casa Loma fashion, with doors opening at 7 p.m., and free dance lessons from 7:15 to 8 p.m., when the Original Knights of Swing take the stage.
The highlight of the evening will be the cutting of a grand birthday cake at 9:15 p.m., followed by a special dance featuring St. Louis celebrities and dignitaries, who will take to the Casa Loma's 5,000 square-foot "floating dance floor" as the band plays W.C. Handy's classic St. Louis Blues.
The evening will conclude with an international flavor, as a DJ spins Latin dance music from 11 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Admission is $10 with a $2 surcharge for patrons under the age of 21. Ample free parking will be available along the newly lighted and landscaped Cherokee Street, with paid parking in two private lots next to the Casa Loma entrance, 3354 Iowa.
