How to search for and obtain land records from the Recorder of Deeds Archives Department

Overview
The Recorder of Deeds department receives and maintains all incoming real estate-related documents for land located within the City of St. Louis—deeds, liens, affidavits, court orders, and other miscellaneous recordable documents. These land records are searchable both online and in our Archives office.
Preparation
Prepare the following information:
- Grantee Name (Buyer or Recipient)
- Property Address (Street Number + Street Name)
- For in-person land record searches, obtain Document’s Recorder Book and Page Numbers (see instructions on how to obtain book and page numbers)

- Visit the Recorder of Deeds Land Records Department

Via Mail
Mail service is best for those who have experience making land records requests. You will need to mail the grantee name and property request, your payment, and your name, address and phone number to:

- Use the free land record search to search for the record you want.
- When you've found the correct record, click the "Purchase more information and the image for this document" link to be taken to Tapestry, the purchase site.

- $20 per ten year search for Grantor Index search
- $20 per ten year search for Grantee Index search
Copy Fees
- $3 First Page Uncertified Copy
- $2 Each Page Thereafter, Same Document
- No Copies of Index Pages or Book Covers
Payment for Walk-In Service is by Visa/MasterCard, Cash, Money Order, or Business Check. No personal checks.
Payment for Mail-In Service is by Personal Check, Business Check, Money Order, or Cash.

- Fee for Tapestry search: $6.95
- Fee for Certified copies: $5 First Page + $2.00 Each Additional Page
- Fee for Uncertified copies: $3 First Page + $2.00 Each Additional Page
- $10 service fee
- $1.50 for standard mail, $30 for FedEx Overnight
What to Expect
In Person
You will receive your copies during your visit, usually within 15 minutes.
Mail-in
When the Archives Department receives your request, they are usually able to put your copies in the mail the next day.
Online
You will receive your copies within 10 business days if you choose standard mail or overnight if you choose FedEx overnight.
