The northeast corner of Evans and Sarah was a gas station for many years. The underground storage tanks, formerly used to hold gasoline, were still beneath the surface.
Funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 were used to remove three 3,000-gallon underground storage tanks and associated contaminated soil.
The former tanks sit on the trailer, waiting to be taken to a recycling facility. The barrels in the foreground are full of sludge which was removed from the tanks.
