Board of Aldermen Opens Applications for City Youth Council
The City Youth Council convenes young residents and city leaders to address issues that impact the lives of youth in St. Louis.
Today, the Board of Aldermen opened applications for the City Youth Council. Council members will meet monthly over a two year term to advise the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen on issues impacting young residents.
Formed by Ordinance 71525, the council gives young people a direct way to inform policies and programs which affect them.
The council is made up of twenty-one youth members and three adult members. Fifteen seats will be selected by the Board of Aldermen through an open application process and six seats will be appointed by the Mayor’s Office. The council’s three adult members include the Mayor’s Senior Advisor on Children, Youth and Families, a representative from the Health & Human Development Committee and a representative from St. Louis Public Schools or an organization serving the City’s youth.
The application is open to city residents between 12 and 18 years of age who have the ability to serve a two year term. Applications must be submitted online by June 2, 2023 at 11:59 PM.
