Comptroller Darlene Green's Statement Regarding City Take-Home Vehicle
Comptroller Darlene Green discusses her decision to break from the long standing tradition of city take-home vehicles for elected officials.
This article is 9 years old. It was published on September 14, 2015.
Traditionally, the City of St. Louis has had a practice of providing city-wide elected and public officials with city vehicles to take home. That old tradition will end for the Office of Comptroller on September 30, 2015. At a time when the city is working very hard to address a number of very important needs and issues, I do not want the take-home car to be a distraction. Ending a tradition that began well before I took office, gives the public I serve greater confidence in the mission of my office;and it is the right thing to do.
As Comptroller, and the watchdog of the city's tax dollars, I want to lead by example and make this announcement ahead of a report on take-home car policies for the City.
