Air Pollution Control

Air Pollution Control provides permitting approval for the following: asbestos abatement, demolition, and occupancy. Inspectors also provide site monitoring and enforcement required by the City ordinance.

Animal Care and Control

Animal Care and Control apprehends stray animals, licenses pets, investigates reports of animal bites, promotes responsible pet ownership, and enforces ordinances.

The Animal Care and Control Shelter, managed by the Center for Animal Rescue and Enrichment of St. Louis, provides shelter and veterinary care for stray or impounded animals. The non-profit also facilitates adoptions for animals housed in the City of St. Louis shelter.

Community Sanitation

Community Sanitation responds to complaints and enforces local and state regulations for health hazards such as raw sewage, no water, insufficient heat, excessive garbage and trash, hazardous materials, and heat or cold- related illnesses. Services also include inspection of recreational water facilities, bathhouses, massage and tattoo parlors, lodging and childcare establishments.

Food and Beverage Control

Food and Beverage Control inspects and permits restaurants, taverns, and other establishments serving food, including food booths at fairs and festivals, to ensure food safety.

Vector Control

Vector Control works to decrease potential disease vectors, including mosquitoes and rats, both of which spread disease and are a nuisance.
