Grand Avenue Water Tower - City Landmark #11
The Grand Avenue Water Tower was designed by St. Louis architect George I. Barnett and completed in 1871. It is a colossal Corinthian column with plinth, base, shaft and capital, totaling154 feet high, constructed in brick and stone with cast iron trim.
Following World War II there was an effort by the City of St. Louis to raze the column which had not been used since 1912. The Grand Ave. Water Tower was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
