Matthew Brummund

Commissioner of Civilian Oversight Board

Matthew Brummund is a retired FBI Agent, having served his entire twenty year career in the St. Louis Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Brummund conducted Civil Rights investigations for the FBI, developing multiple successful Civil Rights violation prosecutions. After Ferguson, Brummund spent three years as the full time Community Outreach Coordinator for the FBI in St. Louis working full time to improve law enforcement-community relationships. As part of his outreach efforts, Brummund developed a Missouri POST training course "Police Legitimacy and Procedural Justice" that was provided to police officers and an Intro to Law Enforcement course for High School students which he taught at Northwest Academy of Law for seven years. He served as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for the FBI, teaching Civil Rights, Interviewing techniques, Crisis Management and other topics. Brummund also spent time at the FBI as a Human Intelligence Supervisor, Counterterrorism investigator and three years as a SWAT team member. Prior to the FBI, Brummund practiced law as an Assistant Prosecutor in Michigan for approximately three years and also spent three years in private practice in Georgia. He has lived in the City of St. Louis's West End neighborhood for sixteen years with his wife and family.
