Apply to Vote Absentee

As of August 28, 2022, there are two absentee voting options:

• No Excuse Needed Absentee Voting, an in-person voting option for ALL voters during the two weeks before each election. You do not need to provide an excuse to vote absentee during this time.
• Application-Based Absentee Voting, the method where eligible voters may apply to vote absentee by mail or in person up to six weeks before each election. A registered voter must submit an application to vote absentee prior to each election before an absentee ballot can be issued.

Read below for instructions on how to apply for the second type of absentee ballot.

 

1. Review the application-based absentee voting requirements to confirm that you are eligible to vote absentee.
2. Check your voter registration to confirm that you are registered to vote.
3. See when the next election occurs. You may request an absentee ballot in person until 5pm the day before election day. Mailed requests for absentee ballots must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday before an election.
4. Download and complete the Request For a Missouri Absentee Ballot.

Requesting a Ballot on Behalf of a Relative

If you are a guardian or relative who wants to sign a ballot application on behalf of a voter, you must do so in person at the Election Board office.

Only relatives with a specific degree of affiliation to the voter may sign a ballot application on the voter's behalf. When you come to the Election Board office, you will have to sign a form attesting to the relationship. Read more about second degree of consanguinity or affinity.

 

On receipt of your absentee ballot request, the Board of Election Commissioners will mail you or give you the ballot along with detailed instructions.
