About Us

The St. Louis Area Agency on Aging (SLAAA) provides a comprehensible and coordinated system of community-based services for older adults in the City of St. Louis.

The Agency's objectives are to secure and maintain maximum independence and dignity in a home environment and encourage economic, social and personal independence of older persons by providing opportunities for employment, socialization, and volunteer activities in the community.

Our Service Area

Geographically, the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging serves older adults, and persons with disabilities (18-59 yrs), who reside within the boundaries of the City of St. Louis.

However, the SLAAA office works with the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging to refer St. Louis City and County residents to the appropriate resources. Also, City residents who have out-of- state older adult relatives are referred to the respective area agency on aging in their area.

Our Services

AARP Tax-Aide Program for Seniors This service provides tax assistance during tax season at no charge to seniors residing in the City of St. Louis and persons working downtown St. Louis. Service Page
Access Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Services Information on how to access city-sponsored health and disease management programs for elderly City residents. Service Page
Acquire Transportation for Seniors Request transportation for non-emergency errands to the grocery store, bank and other locations, or purchase a discounted bus pass Service Page
Apply for Real Estate Tax Credits and Rent Rebates (Circuit Breaker) for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities This service helps seniors and persons with disabilities apply for the Missouri Property Tax Credit Claim (also known as Circuit Breaker). which gives money back to eligible individuals for a portion of their paid real estate tax or rent. Functional Needs Registry The Functional Needs Registry is a database containing information about individuals residing in the City of St. Louis who may require assistance in the event of an emergency. Service Page
Obtain Assistance Applying for Health Insurance or Medicare SLAAA offers assistance for people of all ages with obtaining health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), as well as assistance with Medicare needs. Service Page
Participate in the Senior Minor Home Repair and Chore Program Volunteers provide minor home repairs and household chores for senior citizens (60 years of age or older) living in their own home in the City of St. Louis. Service Page
Participate in the Senior Nutrition Program Meals for the elderly and disabled delivered to the home or provided at the senior centers. Service Page

Home Delivered Meal Program

A portion of the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging (SLAAA) home delivered meal program is financed in part through an allocation of Community Development Block Grant funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the City of St. Louis' Community Development Administration (CDA).

VOYCE

Through funding from SLAAA, VOYCE offers Long-Term Care Advocacy and Resources. VOYCE's mission is to educate and empower persons and their families for quality living across the continuum of long-term care (Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living and Residential Care Communities). VOYCE offers two programs:

the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, or advocacy program, which provides vital services to help with issues of abuse, neglect and other grievances with the help of a team of volunteers.
VOYCEconnect provides information about the long-term care system, levels of care and financial options to help with decision making. Please contact VOYCE at 314-918-8222 for services or volunteer information!
