NGA Partners In Education Geoplunge Tourney
Partners in Education Geoplunge Tournament hosted by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency in St Louis, Missouri on November 14, 2018.
The National Geospatial Intelligence Agency's Partners in Education (PIE) program demonstrates NGA's commitment to advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in local schools throughout the Springfield, Virginia and St. Louis, Missouri communities.
Project Connect is committed to improving the socioeconomic conditions of North St. Louis, including a firm commitment to improving educational outcomes for our youth.
On November 14, 2018, Project Connect was invited to join the NGA's Partners in Education team for their annual Geoplunge Tournament. The tournament was held at Cortex STL and featured teams from 3 local St. Louis Public Schools; Hodgen, Dunbar and Columbia Elementary.

On November 14, 2018, Project Connect was invited to join the NGA's Partners in Education team for their annual Geoplunge Tournament. The tournament was held at Cortex STL and featured teams from 3 local St. Louis Public Schools; Hodgen, Dunbar and Columbia Elementary.
Above: NGA Partners in Education team kick-off the Geoplunge Tournament. GeoPlunge is an interactive card game that teaches children United States geography in an exciting manner. Simultaneously, children learn communication skills, sportsmanship and critical thinking. Mentors coached the students in preparation for the annual Geoplunge tournament hosted by the NGA. 4th graders gathered to showcase their knowledge of states, boundaries, capital cities, geological features and populations.
Above: Geoplunge teams showcase their geographic knowledge by identifying features such as Capital cities before the opposing team. Each team competes in 3 rounds of Geoplunge games before advancing to the next round. The two teams were coached by NGA Partners in Education volunteers.
The final round showcased the 4th graders knowledge with a "Lightning Round" with team captains quickly responding to Geography questions in the hopes of securing the 2018 Geoplunge Trophy.

As progress continues on the future National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency campus, so will efforts to create the educational opportunities that will improve socioeconomic contributors in the Project Connect footprint. The Project Connect team is committed to improving STEM education in our neighborhoods through the continued alignment of partners such as the NGA and our community partners.
